The inspiration for the Kilchoan Initiative comes from Iona, as an open and welcoming place for all those that seek a connection with the natural and the spiritual.

We honour the legacy of all those that have contributed to the remembrance of Saint Columba and the establishment of Iona as a world sanctuary.

There are two Kilchoans in the region.

One, further north from us, was where St Comghan, following the example of St Columba of Iona, established a christian community in the 8th century.

Our Kilchoan seems to also have been a christian community.

Our first project has been to build a Chapel, to honour those that have come before us, to seek guidance from the Almighty for our endeavours and as a peaceful meeting place open to all.

This booklet was written to give a brief account of the history and influences behind the building of the chapel.  It gives a fascinating description of its construction,  the choice of stone and making of the beautiful stained glass windows and the subsequent choice of saints.  Also the talented craftsmen who worked for over a year to create this beautiful chapel which will be here at Kilchoan for centuries to come.

The vision of the owner who has strong family links to Scotland and bought Kilchoan Estate in 2015, was to create a cultural project in conservation and  rewilding for the community of Argyll and the future generations to come.
